Food Waste Prevention events in Mayo

mayo food event1Mayo County Council has been active in several food waste prevention events around the county over recent months, in co-operation with Stop Food Waste (www.stopfoodwaste.ie).

These include:

April 01st:  Food waste prevention and composting workshop with Swinford Tidy Towns.

April 29th/30th:   Food waste prevention event with Westport Tidy Towns at Environmental Fair in Allergan pharmaceuticals, Westport

May 8th/16th:   Food waste prevention and worm composting workshop with local schools and scouts at Lough Lannagh holiday village in Castlebar.

June 3rd:  Food waste prevention information stand at Baxter Healthcare in Castlebar.

DSCN6152[2]June 5th:  Food waste prevention information stand at Baxter Healthcare in Swinford.

This is typical of the synergy between Stop Food Waste and LAPN, working together as part of the EPA’s National Waste Prevention Programme, promoting resource efficiency in Ireland, in homes, communities and businesses.

Some of these events were also held with support from local Tidy Towns committees. LAPN has always been supporting Tidy Towns, but this was really ramped up in 2014 when the EPA and LAPN sponsored a special Tidy Towns award for a waste prevention project. More information here.
