The Waterford City and County Council LAPN project in 2015 focused on the importance of improving the understanding of waste prevention and resource efficiency – namely single use items & packaging at festivals, food waste, plastic bottles, excess products & packaging.
This was achieved by hosting a series of workshops for schools & youths, Stop Food Waste Challenges, greening of walking & cycling festivals and undertaking a reusable water bottle project.
The local authority developed partnerships with the following groups and organisations to maximise uptake and involvement in the work:
- ReCreate
- Stop Food Waste
- Comeragh Crossing Festival Organisers,
- Sean Kelly Cycling Tour Organisers,
- Running Groups,
- Schools
Social media posts in relation to upcoming events, website information, and press release before and after the events.
The ReCreate workshops worked well to break down the concept of reuse/waste prevention and demonstrate real application and use of materials in a fun and creative way.
