On the 18th April 2016 Donegal County Council hosted a seminar for all Donegal Tidy Towns groups on the Sustainable Waste & Resource Management category of the national competition.
There were a number of presentations on the Sustainable Waste and Resource Management theme focussing on waste prevention projects and messages. Anne O’Leary, National Adjudicator gave a comprehensive overview of the competition.
Suzanne Bogan, Waste Awareness Officer and Kelly, Staff Officer, Environment Department from Donegal County Council organised the event.
All Tidy Towns groups in Donegal were invited to attend.
Over 50 people attended. After the presentations attendees were invited to visit a number of information tables where they received information on Social Media, Men’s Sheds, Letterkenny Tidy Towns, Stop Food Waste, Donegal County Council Environment Section, Green Schools and a one to one with the National Adjudicator.
To commit to the theme of sustainable waste management attendees were given all presentations and resources on a password protected memory stick. This greatly reduced the volume of paper on the day and allowed groups to keep the resources in a way that could be shared with other group members.
The chosen venue for the seminar was the Green Hospitality Silver Awardee Radisson Blu Hotel, Letterkenny. Jonathon Officer, Operation Manager with the Radisson gave a fantastic presentation on their work on Waste prevention focusing on waste, energy and water.
