Support for Upcycling in Limerick

upcycling1The  Southern Region Waste Management Office and Limerick County Council have been supporting the upcycling of furniture in the county.

In November 2013 the County Council offered County Hall as a site for an exhibition of upcycled furniture, for the general public to view. Many lovely pieces of furtniture were on display and for sale. All this furniture was brought back to life by the Back2New Community Upcycling Group based in Newcastle West.

The SRWMO and Limerick County Council have also been supporting the group with waste furniture and paint that they can use for their projects.

This project started in 2012 as a pilot partnership between the SRWMO & West Limerick Resources (WLR) Leader Group. The SRWMO supports the initiative by facilitating the collection of furniture for upcycling at the Limerick CAC’s.  WLR provide a training facility and staff and manage this project via the TUS programme. The furniture is “transformed” and sold at very reasonable rates thus ensuring the original discarded items are given a new lease of life.
