Carrigoran House is a 114 bed Elderly Care Centre in Newmarket on Fergus, County Clare employing over 100 staff. In 2011 the facility agreed to participate in a resource efficiency programme sponsored by the EPA and managed locally by staff from Clare County Council & the Regional Waste Management Office (RWMO).
This initiative focused on improving waste management & water consumption at the 114 bed Nursing Home employing 110 staff.
One of the major findings from the waste audit was the need to increase the number of times a patients dietary requirements were assessed so that portion/meal size could be adjusted more regularly. 2 staff training sessions were carried out and staff engagement was very encouraging. Since the project the facility has expanded to provide day care and environmental improvements are ongoing.
