Food waste prevention in businesses in Mayo

Measuring water flow in the hotel

Mayo County Council has been working with two businesses in the county looking at ways to reduce food waste.

One is a local supermarket and the other a small hotel.

Two food waste surveys were carried out in 2013 and recommendations given to both businesses on steps to reduce food waste. There were many options to reduce the food waste from both facilities.

Potential measures for reducing energy and water and their associated costs were also presented to the hotel. These were not such a major issue for the supermarket.
