Cobh Zero Waste and Tidy Towns group won a highly commended award in the 2019 Tidy Towns EPA special award for waste prevention, having been carrying out a broad range of actions in the area of sustainability for a number of years. Some of these include: a Cobh Environment Schools Committee Conference to share ideas and learnings across 6 schools in the town; quantifying how many students had reusable water bottles in the schools in the town; the Cobh reusable coffee cup campaign; a zero waste stall at a farmers market which supplies cleaning supply refills. There were various workshops held, and events like a number of seasonal clothes swap events.
