Stop Food Waste School Cooking Programme

Prevention for Local Authorities

Louth County Council undertook a Stop Food Waste School Cooking Programme with local communities in two housing estates. The project incorporated a mixture of community workshops, cookery demos on food waste prevention, and site visits to local amenities. Local chef Tara Walker, who features on Virgin Media “Weekend AM” and local radio station LMFM, ran the series of five cooking demonstrations in the two schools. There was an emphasis on reducing food waste, with participants cooking the dishes at home between demos. A recipes booklet was produced from the programme. St. John’s and St. Paul’s National Schools and Connect Family Resource Centre in Drogheda were involved.

There was a second phase to the programme involving additional communities.
