Public drinking water points in Galway County

Prevention for Local Authorities

In 2019 Galway County Council undertook to develop a number of public drinking water points in several Council buildings and to encourage communities to develop such points to promote reuse and prevent single use plastic waste.

This included installing a water refill point in locations like the libraries in Tuam and Ballinasloe. Details were also included on the ‘tap map’ on refill.ie which shows you where you can refill your water bottle for free when out and about. Local businesses and organisations have also signed up for the tap map, offering free tap water refills on request, ranging from the community centre on Inishbofin to the Old Barracks Pantry in Athenry.
