Greening the Making Waves Music Festival, Glaslough, Monaghan

Prevention for Local Authorities

The Making Waves Music Festival in Glaslough, County Monaghan took a number of measures to green their local music and food festival held in August 2018.

The festival used reusable, compostable glassware for the bar area, while refills came with a discount when customers returned with the reusable glass.

A free water refill point at the festival was promoted as the “first outdoor drinking water tap in county Monaghan”. As a legacy from the festival a water fountain was also installed in the Community Centre to help to continue to reduce single use plastic bottles.

A series of exhibitors at the ‘Rethink Station’ provided various information and products for a sustainable lifestyle like repairmystuff.ie, refill.ie, the waste ambassadors programme, and the conscious cup campaign.

Junior TidyTowns members were on hand at the waste stations making sure rubbish was sorted correctly to be recycled or composted to help try and achieve a zero waste festival.
