Greening the Cork SeaFest Festival

Prevention for Local Authorities

SeaFest, Ireland’s national maritime festival, was held in Cork in 2019. Given the maritime theme of the festival and the global challenge of marine plastic pollution, Cork City Council wanted to build on its success in greening the GLOW Christmas festival to deliver a green SeaFest summer event in the city. The Council greened the SeaFest festival through supplying drinking water at refill stations, prohibiting food traders from selling beverages in plastic bottles, and ensuring waste prevention and segregation at food markets as part of the festival.
