Establishing a Community Paint Reuse Scheme

Prevention for Local Authorities

Cork City and County Councils have initiated a pilot community paint reuse scheme, collecting suitable paint from two civic amenity sites, and the collected paint will be reused through two social enterprises in the city and county.

For the county side of the pilot project, Cycle Sense, based in Skibbereen, will  filter, remix, recolour and repackage the paint before selling it at reduced rates in the local community. The paint will be made available at a much reduced cost to community groups, houses that have undergone energy retrofits, and to the general public online, via markets, and by a shop in Ballydehob run by the social enterprise.

The pilot project will involve three of Cork County’s eleven Civic Amenity sites; two in West Cork at Derryconnell and Clonakilty and one in East Cork at Raffeen.
