Killarney is Single-Use Coffee Cup FREE!

Why we are doing this?

Businesses in Killarney want to protect our local environment and Killarney National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere reserve.

This action removes 1 million single use cups yearly that otherwise may end up in landfill or as litter.

SINGLE USE COFFEE CUPS ARE TYPICALLY NOT RECYCLABLE OR COMPOSTABLE EVEN WHEN THEY STATE THEY ARE.

The options for customers...

Customers can bring their
own reusable coffee cup.

They can enjoy your coffee
sitting in one of the beautiful
cafés and restaurants in
Killarney.

Anyone can avail of our
town-wide deposit system!
Simply pay €2 for a 2GoCup
& return the cup when
finished in any local café
for your money back.

How is it going so far?

We have already reduced
1 million single-use cups
yearly from landfill or litter
in our local community.

Surveys showed that there is 50% less coffee cups in Killarney bins compared to other towns

Other towns had 60% more coffee cup litter on the roadside

The project has been hugely successful, and this is reflected in the national and international interest shown since the launch as well as its recent Pakman Award win.
Additionally, the project is now being used as an educational tool for primary schools through a local outreach programme that links local art, biodiversity, and science projects.

We’ve even made the news!
If you are not already part of the project, here are three good reasons you might want to get involved.

Stay in step with
customers who are more
environmentally aware of the
need to reduce waste.

Save money by minimising
the purchasing costs of
cups and the waste cost
of filling your bins with
unnecessary waste.

Killarney is leading the way
with this initiative, so join
us in being Ireland’s first…
