Paint Waste Prevention Project

Prevention for Local Authorities

Waterford City & County Council is leading on a collaborative project with Carlow and Kilkenny County Councils on preventing paint waste.  This project was initiated as a result of identifying the significant quantities of nonhazardous paints that were being collected on hazardous waste collection days at council civic amenity sites. This results in a significant cost for disposal.

Thus, a joint paint waste prevention project is being developed in the three counties to raise awareness of how to calculate paint required, how to store paint, and how to dispose of it.

The project is including an awareness raising campaign, working with independent retailers, and an assessment of waste paint brought to civic amenity sites.
