Community Based Food Waste Workshops and Calendar in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) has delivered a series of community based food waste workshops in collaboration with VOICE. In addition, and with input from the course participants, a food waste calendar was produced for distribution to participating communities as a means to share the wealth of knowledge gained.

Two sets of workshops were delivered, one each in the East and West of the County to facilitate as many community groups as possible, using local community facilities in Meadowbrook and Cabinteely. 40 to 50 residents representing 15-20 community groups participated.

This was further enhanced through collaboration between the Environment Awareness and Community Sections to encourage greater participation from Estate Management Forums who benefited from this opportunity. Attendees participated in 3 x 90 minute workshops, between September and November.

In addition, attendees were encouraged to share tips for food management based on the Stop Food Waste Challenge. These tips were used in the food waste calendar. The calendar was designed by the Environmental Awareness Officer of DLRCC in collaboration with a local printer who produced the calendars for distribution to participating estates.
